Iowa's Sisters antiques

Original farmhouse at Sisters' Bloom

A blue/aqua vignette: great table!

Wire basket hanging in stairwell with birdies!

Book banner with letters spelling: house things--cool
I have been following sistersgardeniowa.blogspot.com for some time and thoroughly enjoy the entries.  Today, I got to meet two young ladies who are sisters, plus a sister in law who are part of an extended family who own or consign items to this shop.  However, none of the above was one of the "official" sisters for whom the business is named... whew!  Located beside the road between Kalona and Iowa City, there are two farmhouses serving as showplaces for the chippy, sometimes rusty, funky primitive and thoroughly charming stuff that is for sale.  The yard is also filled to the brim with things to sort and pick through including iron yard art, wood tables, things made from old tin or old farm tools.  There are some retail items that are interspersed with the vintage, but are chosen to blend with the the old elements.  Sisters' garden & bloom is such a fun place and the shop keepers  so enthusiastic and helpful, that I definitely want to return sooner rather than later, but it will probably be fall before I get back again.  All of you Iowa vendors of funky junk need to check this place out if you haven't already.  Fun, fun, fun.  More  pix will  appear later on my business FB pg.

Antiquing through Iowa

Wow!  Life size Marilyn.  Antiques ETC.  Milford

Lovely to look at Mainstreet Memories Mall
Usually in the spring we head toward Iowa for our annual treasure hunt and we were pleased with our finds this year.   Going to mention some of our favorites shops which always prove to be worth the stop.  Estherville has Highway 9 Antiques, with beautiful furniture, glassware and accessories greeting shoppers.  A second room offers many smalls displayed on vintage cupboards etc.  Always good prices.  On to Spirit Lake where the Spirit Lake Antique Mall offers a wonderfully eclectic array of top quality antiques for sale from beautiful wood primitives to shabby painted furniture.  Great choices.  Arnolds Park has another very large mall which was open during the winter for the first time and had excellent traffic.  We always leave with boxes and sacks full of goodies as well as larger pieces.  Several miles down the road in Milford is Antiques ETC which is loaded with a variety of smalls  for collectors.  Be sure to stop in Emmetsburg on a Wednesday to take advantage of their terrific sale day!  Mainstreet Memories Mall is going to expand into another building in April and offer primarily primitives at that location, and for the time being will be open only on Wed----more great deals!  Will include some pix so you get the idea of what's available.
